Leading trainer Simon Miller says he’s in awe of unbeaten filly Amelia’s Jewel, as she continues her preparations for Tuesday’s TABtouch-Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.
The filly finished powerfully to beat Man Crush and Snowdome in last week’s Drummond Golf-Belgravia Stakes and maintain her perfect record.
Miller said he was left in no doubt the filly could add another blacktype victory in Tuesday’s $125,000 feature, following her work this morning.
“If you said to me at the start of the week, I’d be some fast work with her later in the week, I’d say you have hit your head,”Miller told TABradio.
“Her ability to bounce out of gallops or races is just remarkable.
“I stretched her legs on the grass this morning and it was just insane.
She only rolled up in a tick under 24 on the grass, but still that’s enough considering she only raced on Saturday.”
Amelia’s Jewel will start from barrier 10 in the Listed event, where she will take on 10 of her fellow three-year-old fillies.
The Siyouni filly was installed a $1.85 TABtouch favourite and has already been supported into $1.60.
Laced Up Heels ($6.50), Vampi At Play ($6.50) and Penny On The Queen ($9.50) are the other runners in single figures.
It’s unclear what the remainder of Amelia’s Jewel will be after the Burgess Queen Stakes.
She holds a nomination in the Placid Ark Stakes (1200m), WA Guineas (1600m), Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), Northerly Stakes (1800m) and Gold Rush (1400m).
The Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) also looms as a logical target on November 12.
Miller said he felt Amelia’s Jewel could run in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes, WA Guineas and Northerly Stakes during The Pinnacles.
“With what I’ve seen today, you could easily entertain the idea,” he said.
“We won’t get ahead of ourselves; we’ve just got to keep reading the play.
“She has improved that much from her first-up win.”
Tuesday’s TABtouch Burgess Queen Stakes gets underway at 4.20pm.
