Wednesday’s mid-week meeting at Ballarat has been abandoned following a decision made by stewards early this morning. The call came after a track inspection revealed the detrimental impact of overnight rain on the racing surface, with large amounts of surface water making it unsuitable for racing.
In response to the cancellation, Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne took to Twitter to express her frustration with Racing Victoria’s policy, which does not allow the transfer of the race from the grass track to the synthetic track on the morning of the event.
“Rvl are kidding themselves that they can’t transfer Ballarat grass to Ballarat synthetic.” Payne tweeted.
“Have you heard anything more stupid that their policy can’t transfer it the morning of. Unbelievable”
Despite the cancellation, trainers are able to nominate for upcoming race meetings at Pakenham, Terang (Sunday), and Werribee (Saturday).
