“For me, it’s going to be an achievement just to be back riding,”
Those were the words of jockey Michael Walker … when talking to Racing.com … as he put his long rehabilitation and recovery process in perspective following the severe leg injury he sustained in a fall back in May.
Once he is able to throw away his crutches following a knee construction operation, which is expected to be in the next couple of weeks, Walker will move to the physio part of his rehabilitation … and just how long that particular process will take before he might be cleared to resume riding remains very much up in the air.
“My surgeon did say a minimum of six months,” said Walker, “which would take me to February.
“I want to be back by then, but I want to be 150 percent right, because obviously I’m a little bit older now. I’ve had a lot of injuries and being on a horse, your knee takes the full brunt of everything.
“The reason I’ve got through my injuries in the past is because I stay positive and I’m doing that again. I’m really positive.
“I’ve got six months of rehab. I’ll be strong enough and ready to go by then, if the body allows me to ride again.”
