Jockey Michael Cahill hopes to be back riding on George Moore Stakes day later this month after injuring his foot in a barrier accident.

Cahill has been undergoing intensive treatment in recent weeks for a fractured right foot.

He has not ridden since October 25 but injured the foot 10 days earlier when his foot struck the side of the barriers at Murwillumbah.

“I rode on but it wasn’t until the pain got too much I realised something wasn’t right and it was more than just a bruise,” he said.

Cahill said he was going back to the doctor on Thursday and hoped to get a clearance to resume.

“At this stage I am planning on riding on November 30 at Doomben but with luck I could be back a few days earlier,” he said.

There are four stakes races scheduled for the Doomben meeting on November 30.

Cahill was a star of the winter carnival with two Group One wins and is fourth on the Brisbane jockeys premiership this year despite missing several weeks through injury.

Another inured jockey, Tegan Harrison, hopes to be back in late January after an operation on a broken collarbone sustained in a race fall at Doomben on October 7.

And trainer Toby Edmonds has returned home from hospital after being hit by a horse at trackwork last week.

His son and co-trainer Trent Edmonds said his father would have a further check-up this week before resuming work.

“He is tired and has some headaches. He has been ordered to rest up before returning to the track,” Trent Edmonds said.
