Reigning Melbourne Cup champion Americain will carry 58kg, a rise of 3.5kg, in this year’s edition of the race that stops the nation.
Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter announced the weights at a special function at Flemington this morning.
Last year’s runner up Maluckyday will have to carry 54kg, also a rise of 3.5kg, while Caulfield Cup winner Descarado has been allocated 56kg.
Current TAB Sportsbet favourite Shamrocker has been allocated 52kg, the highest of the former three year old fillies.
Scarlett Lady received 51kg, while King’s Rose and Lights of Heaven will both carry 51.5kg if they run.
Last weekend’s Irish St Leger co-winner Jukebox Jury has been given 57kg, on par with previous winners of the Irish classic.
He is one of a number of internationals expected to make the trip.
Dangerous Midge is the highest rated international outside of Americain, with a mark of 57.5kg.
He is unlikely to make the trip.
Godolphin’s Cavalryman has received 55kg, while Lost in the Moment has been allocated 53kg.
This is the same mark carried by their last two placegetters – Crime Scene (2009) and Beekeeper (2002).
Much interest centres around those horses who are lowly weighted or are yet to pass the ballot clause.
These include December Draw (50.5kg, not passed ballot), Bauer (52kg, not passed ballot), Black and Bent (50.5kg, not passed ballot) and Trusting (53kg, not passed ballot).
