As if owning part of both VERRY ELLEGANT (Zed – Opulence) and INCENTIVE (Shamus Award – Miss Argyle) wasn’t enough, the world’s luckiest racehorse owner Brae Sokolski has bought up.
He now owns the first two past the post in this year’s G1 Melbourne Cup and also SPANISH MISSION (Noble Mission – Limonar) who finished 3rd, after finalising a deal with former owners Gary Barber and Brian Irwin today.
No purchase figure has been announced but the flamboyant Sokolski, who was heavily fined after jumping the fence, breaking Covid protocol in his excitement to make his winning Melbourne Cup speech, announced the sale this morning.
“I have finalised a deal to secure Spanish Mission alongside Ozzie Kheir and Jonathan Rosham. He will be trained by Peter Moody.”
This is a rather significant purchase for not only the boys but Australian racing and breeding too.
Spanish Mission, a true global staying star, is an Entire and will stand at stud here once he finishes his racing. But that, according to Sokolski, will not be for a while.
“His owners approached me to buy this wonderful horse and keep him on our shores. Spanish Mission is truly a world class stayer and importantly still on an upward trajectory with so much more to come.”
It actually means, should they see merit in it, the boys could send Verry Elleegant, now the winner of $14.2million in prize money to Spanish Mission, the winner of $2.6million when they both retire, which would be a Melbourne Cup first – should it happen.
Spanish Mission not only brings world class racing ability out stallion ranks, but brand new bloodlines too.
His father is the beautifully bred Noble Mission who is by Galileo from the wonder producer Kind.
