Australia’s most iconic and watched race day has been bolstered by the VRC with more stakes races added to the program.
Melbourne Cup day will now be run with two additional stakes races with the VRC to run the G3 Maribyrnong Plate and the Listed TAB Trophy on the program from this year.
Despite the Melbourne Cup being the most anticipated and watched race of Flemington’s iconic race week the undercard was always second rate to a majority of the other meetings on the carnival with Derby Day and Stakes Day traditionally producing a better racing program for fans and punters.
The VRC has now bolstered the Melbourne Cup program with the additional two stakes races to stamp itself as the quality program of racing in its own right outside of the Melbourne Cup itself.
