The 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival has delivered its largest-ever economic contribution to Victoria and Australia.
National expenditure attributed to the event surpassed $1 billion, with 11.5 million people engaging with Cup Week through watching, listening, or participating in activities.
This marks an increase of 500,000 people and reflects more than half of Australia’s adult population.
The carnival also provided a record $502.4 million in gross economic benefit to Victoria, with 81% of spending benefiting the state’s broader economy.
The event attracted 68,898 international and interstate visitors, the highest level since 2018.
Victoria Racing Club CEO Kylie Rogers said the Melbourne Cup Carnival’s economic impact further cements its status as a key cultural event.
Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines highlighted the significant boost to Melbourne’s economy, with increased crowds at Flemington and bustling local businesses.
The carnival also reaffirms Melbourne’s position as Australia’s premier event destination.
