Jockey Jason Maskiell is expected to spend up to six weeks on the sidelines following a trackwork incident at Pakenham on Tuesday morning.
Maskiell was taken to the Alfred Hospital after being dislodged during trackwork, where he reported soreness in his ribs.
Later in the day, the experienced hoop confirmed via social media that he had suffered a collapsed lung.
“Unfortunately had a tumble today at Pakenham,” Maskiell posted.
“Nothing broken which is good but have a collapsed lung. Roughly six weeks out at this stage.
“Thank you to all the staff & medical team. I appreciate it. Also thank you to my boss Dan for coming in to see me.”
Maskiell has enjoyed a solid season in the saddle, booting home 33 winners, including a recent victory at Moe last Friday.
