Last start Group 1 Ranvet Stakes winner Our Ivanhowe has been retired to stud.
Our Ivanhowe who was originally bought to target the Melbourne Cup was the favourite for Saturday’s Group 1 BMW before being scratched with mild lameness.
Our Ivanhowe won two Group One races in Germany before adding another two to his record in Australia in last year’s Doomben Cup and the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill earlier this month.
The seven-year-old stallion won seven of his 24 starts for prize money of more than $1.8 million.
“It would have been great to have run in and won The BMW but he showed his true colours in the Ranvet and that’s enough for us,” Part owner Kheir told G1X.
“We didn’t want to race him on firm ground anymore so that ruled out the spring, so The BMW was planned to be his last run. If we had changed the goal posts and something bad happened we would have been devastated.”
Connections have decided to retire the imported galloper on a high instead of chasing next weekends Queen Elizabeth Stakes where he would bum into star mare Winx.
Discussions are in place to stand the four time Group 1 winner in France, Germany, and New Zealand.
