A full field of fourteen runners will face the starter for the 2026 edition of the $100,000 Broome Cup, which will be contested over 2200m on Saturday.
As things stand at this time, those fourteen runners represent ten different stables who are based in eight different locations from Coolup, Darwin, Derby, Exmouth, Lark Hill, Muchea, Port Kennedy to South Hedland. Two other trainers from Gingin and Albany are waiting in the wings with possible emergency acceptances.
The Lark Hill based trainer Darryn Pateman has a four-pronged attack in the big race.
Kings Sicario will be looking for a third straight cup win after landing the Derby Cup, over 1800m, and the Kimberley Cup, over 2070m, in his last two starts … creating a perfect build-up, distance-wise, going into the Broome Cup.
This will be the first time Kings Sicario will race over the Broome Cup distance. He has won twice at the track. Those searching for the best betting apps Australia will have the in-form galloper high on their shortlist.
Austin Galati, who rode Kings Sicario in the Kimberley Cup, and Jessica Gray, who did the honours in the Derby Cup, have both moved on to other rides in the Broome Cup … with Galati taking the ride on the Peter Dellar trained Manavendra, the Port Hedland Cup winner … and Gray set to ride Pharaoh Show, another Darryn Pateman trained runner who finished second to Kings Sicario in the Kimberley Cup. Tash Faithfull now takes the ride on Kings Sicario.
There could be a pointer in that jockey movement as Gray is the Pateman stable’s regular rider, suggesting she possibly would have had the choice of stable rides.
Pharaoh Show has raced twice over the Broome Cup distance. He has yet to be placed over the trip. He does have a win at the track to his credit.
Pateman’s two other runners are Hafey, who finished third in the Port Hedland Cup, and Lutz, who finished third in the Derby Cup.
Hafey has yet to win at the track and has not won over the Broome Cup distance.
Lutz has won twice at the track and once over the Broome Cup distance.
