The standalone metropolitan meeting at Wyong on Saturday produced an early start due to the heatwave and an upset result, with longshot King’s Legacy colt Audit defeating race favourite Royal Exile.
Royal Exile, also by King’s Legacy and trained by Jenny Graham, brought race experience into the contest after scoring on debut at Taree last month, but was unable to hold off Audit in the closing stages.
Ridden by Andrew Adkins, the Les Bridge-trained Audit was settled toward the rear of the small field before finishing strongly, racing a little greenly but doing enough late to claim a half-head victory over 1200 metres.
“He was able to settle on the tails of them and travel in comfort which helped,” Adkins said.
“He still has a few things to iron out and did a bit wrong. He felt like he would win by a length and in the end won by a head, so there is good improvement to come.”
Audit was purchased for $60,000 at the Inglis Classic by Banjo Bloodstock from the Mullaglass Stud draft and is the first winner produced by the stakes-winning Showcasing (GB) mare Flaunting (NZ).
The win was the 19th of the season for King’s Legacy.
