In-form training combination Grant and Alana Williams will be hoping their run of victories extends to the two-year-old ranks this week when Khutos lines up in the Amelia Park Plate (1100m) at Ascot.
Khutos, a winner of both his trials, makes his debut in this week’s two-year-old event and is expected to feature prominently.
An $85,000 purchase at last year’s Perth Magic Millions sales, Khutos will line from barrier nine in the field of 10.
Co-trainer Grant Williams said he had been impressed by Khutos to date.
“He’s definitely above average,” Williams told TABradio.
“We’re in unchartered territory with the two-year-olds.
“I’ve spoken to a couple of very clever trainers and older trainers of two-year-olds and he’s ticking all the boxes with what they’ve told us.
“It would be good to get a few of these two-year-olds over the line.”
Khutos heads up the TABtouch market for the Amelia Park Plate at $3.60, ahead of Bonny Rock ($3.80) and There Was A Time ($5).
Meanwhile, Williams said he was confident Linden Lady would be ready to put in a bold showing in Saturday’s Listed Schweppes-Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m).
“She’s a proper one and she’s coming along,” he said.
“One more run under our belt would have been perfect.
“I think she can win on Saturday.”
Linden Lady is on the fourth line of betting for the three-year-old feature, with the market headed up by Admiration Express.
Elsewhere, Williams is hoping Casino Seventeen can book himself a start in next month’s Bunbury Cup (2100m) by winning Saturday’s Pearce Racing Yearling Parade Sunday February 26 Handicap (2200m).
