Qewy, the veteran stayer who won the Listed Bendigo Cup in track record time, will not run in Tuesday’s G1 Melbourne Cup.
Trainer Charlie Appleby said the gelding still needed a few more days to recover from his hard-fought win on Wednesday.
“He knows he’s had a race, and I think the Cup will just come a bit soon for him,” Appleby said.
“It’s only six days between the two races.
“Hopefully we can consider another race for him in Melbourne this trip, provided he is back on top form,” the trainer added.
The absence of Qewy from the Melbourne Cup Field means Wall Of Fire is guaranteed a start.
Qewy was a $26 chance in Melbourne Cup markets.
