Jockey Grant Buckley has been airlifted to Sydney’s Westmead Hospital following a race day incident in the mounting yard at Wyong.
Buckley suffered possible pelvic and spinal injuries when his mount in the fourth race, Cunning Calle, reared in the enclosure, landing on the jockey.
The popular hoop, who is married to Sky presenter Chantelle Buckley, was conscious and talking throughout Thursday’s ordeal but complained of severe pain in his pelvic region.
“The horse has reared over on him in the mounting yard and he has sustained suspected spinal and/or a pelvis injury,” Racing NSW steward Tom Moxon said.
“But at all times he was conscious, and he had movement in all limbs.”
The remaining races were delayed while on-course paramedics attended to Buckley before he was airlifted to Westmead Hospital.
Replacements are yet to be confirmed for Buckley’s four mounts at Rosehill on Saturday.
