Jamie Kah’s resurgence continued an upward trajectory during the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival, with the former premiership winner putting pressure on James McDonald for the honours of the leading rider of the carnival after securing a treble on Saturday.
Having already indicated her return to form with a winning double on Victoria Derby Day, Kah showcased her exceptional skills on Champions Day, clinching victories in three of the first five races.
This treble brings her tally for the week at Flemington to an impressive six wins.
One notable triumph was Kah’s partnership with the resilient mare Deny Knowledge ($3.80 fav) in the G2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m). This victory marked a significant milestone, securing the first-ever win for Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent, who was quick to express his admiration for Kah’s prowess.
Cup Carnival riding honours ultimately went to McDonald after he achieved an exceptional feat by securing victories in three Group 1 races—the Victoria Derby, VRC Oaks, and Champions Stakes—alongside 11 impressive placings. His outstanding performance earned him a total of 30 points, leading to the prestigious acknowledgment of the Ron Hutchinson Award for the third consecutive year.
