Jamaea impressive in the $1million Percy Sykes Stakes

Robert Price, along with his son Luke, train their small team of gallopers out of Nowra, a bush town south of Sydney.

And one of that team is a 2YO filly named JAMAEA (Headwater – Isibaeva).

She cost Robert $130,000 as yearling and he unsold her to the Ken Noble Family, has improved since she started racing. At Randwick she not only won her biggest race ever, but gave the training team their biggest win as well.

And, this after Tommy Berry rode a masterful race, squeezing through a needle-eye opening at the 200m to get her home in the $1million Gr 2 Percy Sykes over 1200m, by half a length from the previously unbeaten and sensationally backed CRYSTAL BOUND (Not A Single Doubt – Crystalised) who cost $400,000 as a yearling.

Not far away was JOYOUS LEGEND (Snitzel – More Joyous) who will be a serious racehorse with time and maturity.

She was flashing home out wide late.

This was Jamaea’s 5th race start and her 2nd win. She has also run 2nd on two occasions and now has won $655,000 and more importantly has a Gr 2 win under her belt.

Berry was full of praise after the run.

“Brilliant performance.

“I rode her a week before Slipper and she felt good but a little hot so they sent her out for a little break. I had offers to ride for this race but I really liked this filly.

Winning trainer Price added, “Just an outstanding result. We have a lot of time for this filly. And I just want to thank the Nobles for giving her to us to train.”
