Jackson Matthews, a former jockey turned behavioural data analyst, celebrated his first training victory at Gawler on Wednesday with Pandarus, his only horse in work.
The Nicconi gelding, ridden by Alan Lai, defied odds of $44 to claim the win in his fourth start.
Matthews, who has just two horses under his name, inherited Pandarus from a kids’ pony club, facing multiple challenges.
Despite this, Pandarus showed significant improvement under Matthews’ guidance.
With a background of over 100 wins as a jockey, including overseas and over obstacles, Matthews now focuses on analysing pre-race horse behaviour.
His victory with Pandarus completes a remarkable trio of accomplishments, adding a training victory to his list of achievements alongside an international win and a triumph over jumps.
