Machine Gun Gracie, a three-year-old filly by Maschino out of Gracie May, delivered a commanding performance in the Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
In only her fourth career start, she led from the outset under jockey Shaun O’Donnell, ultimately securing a 3.4-length victory. The decisive win positions Machine Gun Gracie as the favorite for the upcoming Group III WA Oaks (2400m) on April 5. Trainer Justine Erkelens, who co-purchased the filly for $45,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions, expressed her satisfaction, highlighting the involvement of several first-time owners.
Machine Gun Gracie’s success also underscores the growing reputation of her sire, Maschino, a 17-year-old stallion by Encosta De Lago. Known for producing versatile progeny, Maschino now boasts nine stakes winners, with Machine Gun Gracie being the latest to enhance his standing in the breeding industry.
As Machine Gun Gracie prepares for the WA Oaks, her recent performance has not only elevated her status but also brought attention to the quality of Maschino’s offspring and the astute training of Erkelens.
