A former Adelaide mare who has recently gone through the sale ring and changed stables is in line to make her Sydney debut for Canberra trainer Matthew Dale.
Stakes-placed I Am Gypsy is nominated for Saturday’s 1100m Benchmark-93 Handicap at Rosehill with the mare in what is expected to be her final racing campaign.
The rising six-year-old won six of her 37 starts for her former trainer Gordon Richards and has been stakes placed three times in Adelaide, most recently when third in the Group Three R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville in April.
The mare went through the sale ring at the Magic Millions National Broodmare sale at the Gold Coast at the end of last month and was sold for $170,000, before joining Dale’s stable.
“Newgate Farm and connections bought her as a breeding prospect for this year and we’re just looking to give her a couple of runs before the breeding season,” Dale said.
“She’s a quirky mare. I’ve been through all her race profile and she’s an on-speed mare who is a little bit quirky in her races too.”
Dale said I Am Gypsy was a short-course horse given all her wins have been over 1000m or 1050m.
“We’re still learning about her but she has done well since she arrived down here,” Dale said.
I Am Gypsy is among 16 nominations for Saturday’s race.
