Heatwave threatens weekend racing schedule

Racing Victoria and Racing SA are closely monitoring extreme heat forecasts, with updates on this weekend’s racing schedule expected Friday morning.

Key meetings across Victoria, including Geelong (Saturday), face potential rescheduling or adjustments due to a forecast high of 38°C.

Wodonga (Sunday) and the Healesville picnic meeting (Saturday) are also under review, with decisions pending.

While conditions at Stony Creek and Cranbourne on Saturday night are milder, they remain on watch.

In South Australia, temperatures are set to soar to 42°C for Saturday’s Murray Bridge meeting.

Originally moved from Gawler, the meeting may start earlier to avoid peak heat, with other options including rescheduling or cancellation.
