Faatinah

David Hayes would like to travel Faatinah internationally after his first-up win at Flemington.

But before that takes place Hayes, who trains in partnership with son Ben and nephew Tom Dabernig, has his sights on another couple of Flemington straight races in the next month.

Having his first run since May, Faatinah landed a second Group Two victory in Saturday’s Bobbie Lewis Quality.

Ridden by apprentice Regan Bayliss, Faatinah ($5.50) scored by 1-3/4 lengths from Tivaci ($12) with We’ve Got This ($13) a long head away third.

Hayes said Faatinah would return to Flemington for the Group Two Gilgai Stakes on October 2 before another Group Two race over the straight 1200m on October 29.

Faatinah is owned by Sheikh Hamdam’s Shadwell Stud and Hayes said if his form warranted he would like to head to Dubai next year.

“If he can be good going through the grades at his next few starts I would love to take him to Dubai and show him off to the boss,” Hayes said.

“He beat some good Group One horses today and he’s been working like a Group One horse.”

Hayes was full of praise for Bayliss who landed his biggest success.

Bayliss joined the Lindsay Park stable after Peter Moody closed his training operation in March.

“Peter Moody sent me some really nice progressive horses and I reckon Regan is the most progressive,” Hayes said.

Star New Zealand galloper Xtravagant ($6.50) was eased out of the race by Damien Oliver finishing last, 15 lengths behind the second last horse.

Oliver said Xtravagant’s action didn’t feel right but reported he felt okay trotting back after the race.

“It could have been the straight,” Oliver said.

“Some horses just don’t run their best down the straight but he’s run so far below his best as his work on Tuesday morning was good.

“We’ll have to see what the vet report says.”
