Group 1-performed sprinter Stretan Angel will be a headline addition to May’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale after her connections confirmed she will go under the hammer at the southern hemisphere’s premier breeding stock auction.
The daughter of Harry Angel was among the top sprinters of her generation, recording three stakes victories and finishing in the placings at Group 1 level on three occasions. She is also a half-sister to exciting juvenile Stretan Ruler and will be offered through the Yarraman Park Stud draft.
Stretan Angel made an immediate impression on the track, scoring a dominant stakes win as a two-year-old before claiming the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington during her three-year-old campaign. She later added another stakes success at Caulfield.
Her consistency against the nation’s best sprinters was highlighted by Group 1 placings in the Lightning Stakes, Newmarket Handicap and the Goodwood Handicap.
Prepared throughout her racing career by Phillip Stokes, the mare was always highly regarded by the stable. Assistant trainer Tommy Stokes reflected on her talent and attitude.
“She’s always oozed class since the day when she came back from the breakers. We knew she had a good brain on her.
“As you can see from her time as a two-year-old, we contested great races from straight away with her. She showed right from the start she was a high class racehorse.”
Her younger half-brother Stretan Ruler has quickly made his mark and is shaping as a key contender for the Golden Slipper after a dominant victory in the Silver Slipper Stakes and a runner-up finish behind Paradoxium in the Todman Stakes on Saturday.
The colt, a full-brother to Stretan Angel, was purchased for $540,000 at last month’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
