Robbie Griffiths is hoping to add another Group 1 Newmarket Handicap trophy to his collection, nine years after winning with The Quarterback.
This time, it’s with the promising sprinter Rey Magnerio, who has impressed with a win in the Rubiton and a strong run in the Oakleigh Plate.
“We’ve put a lot of eggs into the basket of having him ready for this run and hope he’s good enough,” Griffiths told racing.com.
He acknowledged the race’s tough competition but believes Rey Magnerio has shown the potential to compete at the highest level.
Griffiths was pleased with Rey Magnerioโs final gallop ahead of his third Group 1 attempt and remains confident despite the stiff competition.
While comparing Rey Magnerio to The Quarterback, Griffiths noted the latter had more experience but thrived in the smaller field of the Newmarket.
