Disappointed at losing Aft Cabin from the Caulfield Guineas, Godolphin and James Cummings have a ready replacement in Golden Mile.

James Cummings and Godolphin looked to have an exceptional hand in the Caulfield Guineas but will now just have one representative in the stallion making race.

Aft Cabin was ruled out of Saturday’s Group 1 contest over 1600m on Saturday following a bleeding attack after trackwork at Flemington on Saturday morning.

Stablemate Golden Mile will now be Cummings’ sole representative in the race and will arrive in Melbourne during the week to take his place.

Champion Sydney-based jockey James Mcdonald is booked for the ride.

“Golden Mile is on target for the Caulfield Guineas,” Cummings said.

“Unfortunately, Aft Cabin has to go to the paddock, which is disappointing for that horse because he was just about ready to prove what a good horse he was and now we’ll have to wait for next year.”

Aft Cabin headed the market with TAB for the 2022 Caulfield Guineas before news broke on Saturday that the colt would miss the race.

Golden Mile has taken over at the top of betting at $4.50, just ahead of Berkeley Square at $5 with Tijuana on the next line at $9.

Like Aft Cabin, Golden Mile has raced only four times, registering two wins.

Whereas Aft Cabin started his career in Sydney before heading to Melbourne, Golden Mile scored on debut at Ballarat before heading to Cummings’ Sydney base where he has had three runs this campaign.

Golden Mile took out the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Stakes (1400m) on September 10 before finishing fourth to Jacquinot in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 24.

Cummings said both three-year-olds were classy sons of Astern, but different styles of horses, and while disappointed Aft Cabin has been ruled out, he expects Golden Mile to take some beating.

“I thought his Golden Rose run was outstanding,” Cummings said.

“The Golden Rose is a classic form line two weeks out from the Caulfield Guineas, and he is going to be ready to run a very good race next Saturday.”
