The Kavanaghs have shifted their focus, selecting the Geelong Cup for their notable stayer, First Immortal, as he vies for a berth in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 7.
With Jamie Kah slated to be in the saddle and following First Immortal’s impressive second-place performance in The Bart Cummings, there’s palpable anticipation in the air.
Discussing the decision to sidestep the Caulfield Cup, Levi Kavanagh told racing.com, βWe were comfortable with our decision as we thought it was unlikely we would have got in.β
He emphasised their current trajectory, adding, “Weβre pushing towards the Geelong Cup, where heβs definitely in the field.”
While a Geelong victory could be the gateway to the Melbourne Cup, Levi also highlighted a potential plan B: the Lexus at Flemington.
He acknowledged challenges but remained optimistic, saying, βWe knew it’d be tricky, but we’re hopeful of making it.”
First Immortal is the $2.60 favourite with online betting sites Neds and Ladbrokes.
