Gai Waterhouse has made her presence felt at the first session of the Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast spending more than $1.4 million on four yearlings by Fastnet Rock.
The top Sydney trainer, who has sourced the likes of Golden Slipper winners Pierro, Sebring, Dance Hero and Ha Ha from the annual auction, secured the opening session’s top-priced lot, a $500,000 Fastnet Rock filly.
Waterhouse bought the sister to stakes winner Jolie Bay in combination with bloodstock agent James Harron, who also teamed up with her to secure another filly by Fastnet Rock for $330,000.
The pair also bought two colts by the same sire, including a $460,000 son of Group One placegetter My Lady’s Chamber.
Queensland’s Danny Bougoure went to $400,000 for a Snitzel-Miss Kournikova filly while leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody was also prominent paying $210,000 for a colt by Charge Forward.
However, there were several lots which failed to reach their reserve and were passed in.
Among them was a Fastnet Rock-Liberty Rose colt with bidding stopped at $475,000, $125,000 short of his reserve.
