Group 3-winning mare Queen of Dragons, who is entered for a stakes race in Brisbane on Saturday, is among five notable late additions to the opening session of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday.
The Pierro mare, accepted for Saturday’s Group 3 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Mile (1600m) at Doomben, will go under the hammer as part of the Newgate Consignment, acting as agent for Trilogy Racing. Queen of Dragons is being promoted as a standout racing and breeding prospect.
Joining her in the late entry pool are four-time winner Avone, by Spirit Of Boom, and Ballroom Bella, who boasts Group 2 placings, offered by Kenmore Stud and Widden Stud respectively.
Also included is Giliana, a lightly raced winning mare by Capitalist and a half-sister to stakes performer Garibaldi. She will be sold via the Eureka Stud draft.
Te Akau Racing has supplemented Bella Voce, a well-related daughter of Fastnet Rock, into the International Section to conclude Tuesday’s offering of race fillies and mares at the Gold Coast.
Trilogy Racing’s bloodstock and racing manager Colum McCulloch spoke highly of Queen of Dragons’ potential, both on and off the track.
“I had the honour of working closely with her during my time as racing manager for Peter and Paul Snowden, having watched her develop from a yearling right through to her Group-class performances on the track,” McCulloch said.
“Mentally, she was as professional as they come – much like her full-sister Paris Dior – and she has continued to strengthen and furnish with every preparation. She’s a mare who is genuinely still on an upward trajectory, and her best racing days may well still be ahead of her.”
