It is with sadness that Racing Victoria has confirmed that Gatting has been humanely euthanised as a result of an injury sustained during the running of the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse today.
The horse received immediate veterinary care, however it was unable to be saved due to the nature of the injury sustained.
His rider, Luke Nolen, was not injured.
A post mortem will be conducted on Gatting at the University of Melbourne Equine Centre as is standard practice.
Gatting had raced around the country earning over $2million for connections and was out to defend his win in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes.
