Dream Of Mine will experience something new when she runs at Sandown

Dream Of Mine will break new ground at Sandown when she races for the first time away from her home track at Mornington.

Trainer Brooke Schreuder prepares her small team at Mornington and to date Dream Of Mine has had her six career starts, for two wins and four placings, all on her home course.

But that will change on Wednesday when Dream Of Mine runs in the Ladbrokes Racing Club Handicap (1000m) at Sandown.

“She’s been quite a difficult horse along the way and races did pan out where we could keep racing at Mornington all the time,” Schreuder said.

“So, we have not needed to travel away until now as Mornington does not have another meeting until September again.

“Sandown is only half-an-hour up the road, so hopefully she adjusts to somewhere new.”

Dream Of Mine did not start her racing career until this season as a five-year-old.

Schreuder explained the mare had soft bone issues as a younger horse as well as wind problems.

She said Dream Of Mine required multiple periods of three months rest to overcome her ailments while there was a number of mental challenges that also slowed the process down.

Dream Of Mine got on the board when successful on April 9 and followed up at her next start with a win on May 23.

The mare’s most recent start was on a heavy track when third on June 21.

Schreuder said Jake Noonan, who has ridden the mare in each of her six starts and will take the ride again on Wednesday, was instrumental in convincing the trainer to run Dream Of Mine at Sandown.

“He feels the chute will suit her,” Schreuder said.

“It’s whether she handles the trip away and the occasion.

“Last start, she got through the heavy ground, but it took away her brilliance to kick away on the turn as she had in her previous couple of starts.

“With a bit drier surface, we’re hopeful she will run up to what she had been doing.”
