It’s a fantastic day for horse racing enthusiasts and the Living Legends family, as Apache Cat, the eight-time Group 1 winner, is officially cancer-free.
Two years ago, in November 2021, Apache Cat, affectionately known as ‘Patch,’ underwent surgery and radiation treatment to address a squamous cell carcinoma in his right eye. This type of cancer is more common in horse breeds with a lack of pigment around the eye.
Living Legends shared an update on social media, stating, “We are thrilled to announce that a recent check-up with Dr. Turner, two years later, confirmed that there is no sign of the original cancer.”
They also expressed their gratitude for the expert care provided by eye specialist Dr. Andrew Turner from All Animal Eye Services, saying, “We feel incredibly fortunate to have access to such excellent specialist services provided by Dr. Turner and his team.”
The team at Living Legends, where Patch resides, is overjoyed with the positive outcome and remains committed to providing the best possible care for his continued wellbeing.
“Patch is such an important part of the Living Legends family, and we are overjoyed to share this positive news with our supporters.
“We will continue to provide him with the best possible care and attention to ensure his continued wellbeing,” the statement read.
Now 20 years old, the Greg Eurell-trained galloper remains an important and beloved member of the Living Legends family.
