French Group 3-winning colt Rafale Design is set to join the powerful Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable, but not before taking his chance at Group 1 glory in Europe.
The promising three-year-old, a son of Starspangledbanner, has won four of his six career starts, including the Group 3 Prix Hocquart at Longchamp in May and Sunday’s Prix du Lys over 2400m.
Following his latest victory, a 50 per cent share in Rafale Design was secured after Monday’s Goffs London Sale. The transaction, facilitated by bloodstock agent Johnny McKeever, will see the colt continue his campaign under current trainer Yann Barberot in Europe before heading to Australia.
The colt is now set to line up in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris (2400m) in July, where he’ll look to add elite-level success to his already impressive résumé before being imported Down Under.
Rafale Design was passed in at the Goffs sale for £2 million (A$4.14 million) just days ahead of Royal Ascot, with his vendor retaining an interest in the colt.
