Santa Ana Moon has provided apprentice Hannah Edgley with a second Saturday success

One week apprentice Hannah Edgley and the stable of Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin were the toast of punters, the following they were their nightmare.

Edgley landed her first Flemington winner last week when she teamed for the first time in town with the Corstens and Larkin stable while she returned at Sandown on Saturday to supply them with another success.

A $3.70 chance at Flemington last week, Marble Nine was able to land the money, but her Sandown win on Saturday was somewhat of a surprise with Santa Ana Moon taking out the Quayclean Handicap (1400m) as a $41 chance.

“To be given these opportunities, on these types of horses, is fantastic,” Edgley said.

“It’s really good to repay the Corstens team. They’ve given me a few opportunities and hopefully it’s the start of a very successful relationship.”

Larkin was representing the Corstens team on Saturday and paid Edgley a compliment.

He said she had been riding in excellent form.

“That is two city winners in as many weeks for us,” Larkin said.

“It’s so good for her.”

Santa Ana Moon turned his form around having finished fourth in a Class 1 race at Cranbourne on May 23 after racing on the speed.

The Silver Bowl Series Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 5 is now the likely target.

“The horse got a lot wrong at Cranbourne last time. We went forward on him and that is the wrong way to go about it,” Larkin said.

“He’s not mentally right to do that yet, so we instructed Hannah to get him back, get some cover, so it was good to see him finish off the way he did.”

Larkin does not see the rise to 1600m being any problem for Santa Ana Moon when he heads to the Silver Bowl Series Final in three weeks’ time.

“He just has to get things right in the early stages and with every run he’s doing that, so a mile should be OK for him,” Larkin said.
