Dylan Dunn is set to make his long-awaited return to the saddle, with the 28-year-old licensed trainer preparing for his first race ride in almost four years.
Dunn revealed to Racing.com that the desire to resume riding has been bubbling away for some time, following the serious trackwork accident at Caulfield in 2021 that left him with fractures to his fibula and tibia.
Since then, he has been training horses while allowing his injuries to heal, but confirmed this week that he is ready to return to the career he loves most.
βI just love being a jockey,β Dunn said. βI just love being a professional athlete and I am just not ready to give it up. I am really excited to make the transition back into riding from next week.β
The son of Group 1-winning rider Dwayne Dunn explained that his injuries forced him to step aside from race riding, though he always believed a comeback was possible.
βAfter surgery, I didnβt have the flexibility in my ankle to get straight back into it (riding), so I took out a dual licence to go down the training path and got so busy that the riding got pushed to the side a bit,β he said.
βItβs (ankle) been great over the last 12 months. Iβve been able to run a half marathon, go skiing and do some indoor soccer, so the ankle and body are finally back to where they need to be. I feel Iβve got some unfinished business in my riding career.β
