Jockey Dylan Dunn sidelined by Concussion suffered in a fall at Mornington

Comeback jockey Dylan Dunn, son of Champion rider Dwayne, has been stood down from riding after entering concussion protols, following a fall in the Mounting Yard at Mornington yesterday.

Dunn was riding the Brett Scott trained Foxtrot Charlie in the 3rd race, who reared up on Dunn when he was mounting up on the horse in the Mounting Yard, throwing him to the ground. He proceeded to ride that horse in the race and finish 3rd but however post race symptoms of concussion were event and Dunn was taken to hospital.

In a statement on his Instagram account Dunn stated “On Wednesday 18th December at the Mornington Twilight Races, I sustained a fall in the Mounting Yard in Race 3. I continued to ride the race, as I felt okay at that time, however, following the race it became apparent I had suffered a concussion as a result of the fall.”

“I was taken to Frankston Hospital, where I was monitored overnight as a precaution for any potential spinal injuries or further concussion symptoms and underwent CT Scans. Thankfully, it appears I haven’t sustained any serious injuries.”

“However, due to the concussion I will be stood down for the mandatory period of 12 days, but I look forward to getting back in the saddle in time for the New Year.”

It’s unfortunate timing for Dunn with the former champion apprentice rider building his profile back in the riding ranks after a sustained layoff that saw him turn his hand to training and work in the media.
