Anthony Cummings notched his second Scone winner in as many days having entered the two-day carnival without ever preparing a winner at the Hunter Valley track.
Diamond Earth ($6) showed her rivals a clean set of heels to lead all the way in Saturday’s $140,000 Arrowfield 2YO Fillies Handicap (1100m).
The flying youngster had three-quarters of a length to spare at the winning post over the fast-finishing Villa Splendido ($12) with half a length to Write Creek ($19) third.
Diamond Earth’s win came on the back of stablemate Foxcraft’s success on Friday in maiden company.
Cummings said it was only the third time he had brought horses to Scone but has an even longer journey in mind for Diamond Earth’s next assignment as he chases a breakthrough black-type win with the daughter of Choisir.
“There’s not really a race in Brisbane during the winter carnival that suits her that well,” Cummings said.
“If she’s going to have another race before the turn of the season it would be in the Dermody Stakes in Adelaide (on July 28). It’s 1000 metres for two and three-year-olds at set weights and it’s a stakes race.
“The one thing she hasn’t got yet is a stakes win so we’d like to do that.”
Cummings said the filly, who has earned $483,500 prizemoney from her seven starts, would spend some time out on the water walker at the Wild Oaks property before heading to Melbourne to prepare for her Adelaide assignment.
Villa Splendido, who scored a debut win at Hawkesbury a fortnight ago, ran home strongly on the outside and apprentice Sam Clipperton was left to lament having his momentum halted at a vital stage in the straight.
“I’d say she would have gone close,” Clipperton said.
“She’s a promising filly.”
