Defibrillate, a notable middle-distance specialist and a million-dollar earner, has been retired from racing.
Bred by co-trainer Graham Richardson and the McInteer Family, Defibrillate enjoyed ownership by several close friends, including trainer Lance O’Sullivan and former Black Cap Brendan McCullum.
Starting his career in Richardson’s stable, he won two of his first three starts before joining Patrick Payne in Australia in 2019, where he achieved eight victories, including significant wins in the Listed Lord Stakes and Mornington Cup Prelude.
After earning over A$750,000 in prize money and facing tough handicaps, Defibrillate returned to Richardson’s stable, continuing to perform well with a win in the G3 Balmerino Stakes and a third in the G1 Livamol Classic.
His pinnacle achievement was winning the G1 Zabeel Classic, pushing his earnings past $1 million.
Following recent challenges, including a minor eye injury and a taxing campaign, Richardson decided to retire him.
Defibrillate will now enjoy retirement at Brendan McCullum’s property, alongside another Zabeel Classic winner, Tiptronic.
