A barrier trial performance that exceeded expectation and some flashy trackwork have earned filly Just A Blur a city debut.
The youngster was a dual acceptor for Friday’s meeting at her home track of Canberra and Saturday’s Warwick Farm program.
But co-trainer Barbara Joseph confirmed Just A Blur would be making the trip to town after continuing to improve following her trial win last month.
“She’s definitely going to go to Sydney,” Joseph said.
“She trialled very well the other day at Canberra and she worked very nicely on Saturday morning and ran good time.
“She’s just improved in the last two weeks and I thought why not give her a go.”
Joseph is not heading to town lightly.
The last time she recalls having a two-year-old runner in Sydney on a Saturday was almost 10 years ago and it was handy juvenile Commands Nothin’.
Joseph said Just A Blur was shaping up at least as well as the 2004 Inglis Classic winner.
“She’s running better times than I’ve ever had two-year-olds run,” she said.
“I might be wrong but if you don’t have a go, you never know.”
A $20,000 buy at the Inglis Classic Sale, Just A Blur will be ridden by Carl Spry who recently relocated his family from Darwin to Canberra where he has joined Joseph as stable rider.
The filly will be one of eight runners in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1000m) which also includes All The Talk, a winner at the course and distance in December.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Sugar Rush, unplaced as an odds-on favourite in the Gimcrack Stakes, will also resume in the race.
