Racing Victoria’s inquiry into trainer Darren Weir’s misconduct is making headway, as revealed by the organisation’s integrity department.
Weir, previously penalised with a $36,000 fine for animal cruelty involving electrical devices on three horses in 2018, recently met with RV stewards.
RV stewards are actively pursuing an investigation into Weir’s historical use of such devices.
The evidence from Weir’s court case prompted Racing Victoria to revive its examination of the case.
Although no new charges have been filed, the inquiry is progressing, with stewards conducting interviews and seeking resolution promptly.
If found guilty, Weir may face further racing bans.
Racing Victoria confirmed the investigation’s advancement and the stewards’ commitment to resolving the matter promptly.
“The Stewards have been active in following lines of inquiry in relation to their reactivated inquiry and have interviewed multiple persons,” a Racing Victoria statement read.
“We can confirm that the inquiry has progressed, with the Stewards aiming to have the matter resolved as soon as they are able to.”
