Connections of Denmagic will be hoping class prevails when the 5-year-old mare contests the Just Now Quality at Doomben over 1350m on Saturday.
Trained by David Pfieffer, the current $7.50 shot has been placed 5 times at group race level, most notably in the Group 1 Myer Classic at Flemington in October last year, beating Dixie Blossoms, First Seal and Danish Twist when finishing just 0.5L behind I Am A Star.
She was also placed in both the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas as well as the Group 2 Queensland Guineas, as well as running 4th behind Everest hopeful In Her Time in February this year, in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes. One of her best runs came in March 2016, finishing a mere 0.2L off Egyptian Symbol in a listed race at Rosehill over 1200m.
Denmagic has been luckless recently, twice beaten convincingly by Dixie Blossoms and Daysee Doom in Sydney Group races before heading to Doomben, finishing 3L off Notonyourlife and Our Beebee in a listed race over 1200m, where she came from 12th at the 400 to beat 7 horses home, clearly wanting an extra trip which she gets this Saturday, stepping up to 1350.
It has been a colorful career so far for Denmagic, placing 11 times so far from 27 starts with just the 2 wins to her names, however beating the likes of Group 1 winners Takedown and Santa Ana Lane as well as Caulfield Cup runner up Single Gaze.
Gallopers making the trip up to Queensland from Sydney have typically done well, most recently Pretty Fast, winning by nearly 3L in a listed race at Doomben last Saturday. Denmagic will race in the $100,000 feature race this Saturday with Michael Rodd in the Saddle for David Pfieffer.
