A less than perfect last start turns into Guineas glory for Bosustow at Gold Coast

Money well spent two years ago has delivered Victorian-based Rosemont Stud and partners with a rich windfall when Bosustow claimed the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas at Gold Coast.

Co-trainer Annabel Neasham was uncertain whether a gear change would make the required difference but the application of blinkers for the $3 million event over 1400-metres did the trick.

Bosustow has a less than perfect last start outing at Eagle Farm when finishing outside of the placings in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) on December 28, but a more settled colt under the Gold Coast night lights turned that disappointment around.

“I went to Brisbane specifically to ride him last start,” jockey Josh Parr said.

“I was happy to pick up the ride that day and I wanted to stick with him.

“There were a few things that didn’t go his way. He was quite fresh afnd it was a hot, humid day and he got quite restless and agitated in the barrier and missed the start.

“Today, he was the ultimate professional and sat midfield, three-wide with cover and his turn-of-foot was incredible and challenged late.”

Annabel Neasham tinkered with the horse’s gear and took the middle ground to effect.

“I galloped him in blinkers at Doomben last week and he was very wound up before it so I got a bit nervous about putting them on so I went halfway with the winkers,” Neasham said.

“Happily it has paid off.”

Bought for $900,000 at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the son of Irish sire Blue Point, is now nearing the $2 million mark in prizemoney.

“He is a very well-bred colt and a great bunch of owners and I’m thrilled for them all because he’s been a bit of a bridesmaid,” Neasham added.

Bosustow ($13) won by a head-margin over the Barry Lockwood-trained Give Me Space ($9.50) with Arriving Home ($21) in third.

Neasham and Rob Archibald also won the $2 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) earlier on the card with West Of Africa.
