Jockey Blake Shinn has clinched two prominent bookings for the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate this spring.
He’s confirmed to ride Victoria Road in the Cox Plate 2023, a horse that recently saw a significant shift in the betting market.
In addition, Shinn has outmanoeuvred Frankie Dettori to secure the ride on Spanish Mission for the Melbourne Cup.
Spanish Mission will bypass the Caulfield Cup, targeting the Geelong Cup as a lead-up to the Melbourne event.
This move has left Dettori’s prospects for a final Melbourne Cup ride in doubt, given the few horses available within his weight range of around 54.5kg.
Spanish Mission is currently listed as a $51 chance in Melbourne Cup odds while Australian online bookies currently have Victoria Road listed as a $9.00 chance for the Cox Plate.
