Trainer Mick Price will run True Persuasion in this month’s William Reid Stakes but has already conceded the Group One race to champion sprinter Black Caviar.

True Persuasion will oppose the runaway Newmarket Handicap winner for the third time but Price said the Group One placegetter had no chance of turning the tables.

“Nothing in this country will beat her,” Price said.

He said Black Caviar’s 11th win appeared a formality at weight-for-age in the William Reid under lights at Moonee Valley on March 25.

Price said True Persuasion would benefit from a “pipe-opener” in this Friday night’s Premium Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

However, with Black Caviar in the William Reid, Price says everyone else will be running for second.

True Persuasion is from the same Bel Esprit crop as Black Caviar.

His best of two Group One performances was a second to Hay List in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last September.

Last start he finished second to Zedi Knight when beaten a length in the Mercedes-Benz CV Somerton Premium Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 4.

Twice he has clashed with Black Caviar but has come up six lengths short each time.

He was third to her in the Group Two Schweppes Stakes (1200m) on Cox Plate Day and sixth in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

“His (form) is fully exposed and he has been unable to go any better that what he has gone,” Price said.

Glen Boss will ride True Persuasion on Friday night while Craig Newitt returns from suspension to ride him in the William Reid.

Meanwhile, Price said in-form three-year-old Cuban Sunday would miss Friday night’s Group Two Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

He said the lightly-raced galloper, who has won three of his eight starts, would be saved for a 2000m event at Caulfield on March 26.

Jockey Ben Melham is keen on the Alister Clark chances of Folding Gear who has had four starts and won his last two at Sandown and Caulfield.

Melham rode the gelding when he fought on strongly to win the Group Two Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield in a photo finish and said he was a genuine improver.

“I didn’t ride him work him at Moonee Valley the other morning but apparently he worked very well,” Melham said.

“He is a progressive horse and every time they have raised the bar he has performed to expectations.

“He is still really raw so there is still plenty of improvement in him and this is a great race for him.”

There are 17 nominations for the Alister Clark, including Elusive King and Almindoro who filled the minor placings in the Autumn Classic.
