We all need good news stories these days.
And here is one.
It probably has been achieved before, but it certainly isn’t done often, and well, should be reported.
Under-rated Victorian jockey Billy Egan, whose CV as a rider continues to improve daily, did something on Thursday you just don’t see.
He rode 4 winners.
Yep, OK, that does happen on a near weekly basis, somewhere in Australia, but Egan’s effort was different.
He did it at two different tracks!
His windfall started at Kilmore when the Paddy Payne trained EQUASPECIAL (Equiano-Our Final Snip) came storming late to beat the leader Chatacain. Equaspecial was a $4 chance.
His next ride was aboard HELJAMI (Written Tycoon-Miss Chard) for Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, and she won the race by 2.5 lengths which everyone was happy about because Heljami was the $2.10f.
He wanted to kick the cat after his very next ride when he was beaten a nostril on COWLEY’S CREEK.
But he bounced right back a ride later with a win on STOGURSEY PRINCE (Anacheeva-Spinning Lady) at $7, again for Payne.
Buoyed by his bagful, he showered then jumped into his car and drove 130km via the National Highway to Pakenham for the night meeting.
His one ride at Pakenham was for Michelle Payne aboard FLAG EDITION (Raise The Flag-Ears Carol) who was a $13 chance.
And yep, that midas touch came in the car with him as he stormed home to win that race too.
Egan has been enjoying a year like never before as the rider of prolific winner RUBISAKI (Rubick-Senro Kisaki) when she won the $1million Inglis Sprint and the $200,000 G2 Kewney Stakes.
She has won 8 of her 10 starts and $1,156,650 in prizemoney.
