Trainer Jason Warren is setting his sights on the Doomben 10,000 for Benedetta after a solid fifth-place finish in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes at Randwick.
The five-year-old mare finished less than three lengths behind the winner, Jimmysstar, in the 1400m race. Despite the stiff competition, Warren was pleased with Benedetta’s performance.
“It was a terrific effort,” Warren said, noting that Jimmysstar was always going to be tough to beat on recent form.
The mare will now head to Queensland for the Doomben 10,000 on May 17. Warren is optimistic, saying it looks like a suitable race for her.
Benedetta has already placed in the G1 Black Caviar Lightning and G1 William Reid Stakes this campaign, with a rough run in the Newmarket Handicap in between.
Warren also has several G1 options for the mare post-Doomben, but he is considering a winter break to prepare for a spring campaign.
