Vying for the early lead and then being stuck three-wide in the run saw Torabella have a torrid time at her last start outing, and Tony Gollan is not prepared to let that happen again.
Torabella started the $3.70 favourite in the Listed Tails Stakes (1500m) at Eagle Farm two weeks ago finishing 10th and the five-year-old returns to the scene on Saturday in the Listed Members Mile (1600m) as a $7 chance carrying 54-kilos.
“She started favourite when there looked to be no speed at all last time,” Gollan said.
“Then, all of a sudden, they wanted to go flat out.
“She finished beside Sibaaq who came out and won the Open 1800m last week so I don’t think her beaten form is that bad because she did way too much work through the first half.
“I just want to see her get a more comfortable run where she may lead, she may not lead and sit third or fourth. I really want her to have a more comfortable run early.
“She is certainly going well enough to win this race.”
Eagle Farm was rated Soft 5 on Thursday morning with the potential of up to ten millimetres of rain through the day and possibly a further six on Friday.
Gollan is hoping that enough water falls on the course so that a firm Eagle Fam surface does not eventuate.
Tails Stakes winner Miss Joelene is also set to start in the same race and holds market favouritism at $2.75.
Among his other runners on the day, Gollan saddles four in the Listed Falvelon Stakes (1500m) where stable stalwart Hidden Wealth is at $3.90.
Brisbane’s premier trainer expects the six-year-old gelding to stand up to the task despite the 60-kilo impost on his back in search of the stable’s fourth win in the race.
“Things didn’t pan out for him in the George Moore Stakes,” Gollan said.
“The winner (Caballus) was brilliant but I think he still could have finished second.
“He’s a class horse and that is why he’s got the 60-kilos. He’s in good shape and I’d love some rain around.”
