Tasmanian Racing has confirmed Sunday’s Group 3 Hobart Cup was run short after barriers were incorrectly positioned.
The starting gates were not set at the intended 2400-metre mark, leaving the field racing between 30 and 40 metres under the advertised distance.
An inquiry is now underway, with the matter also referred to the Tasmanian Racing Integrity Commissioner.
Blonde Star won the feature in a tight photo finish, with the time initially thought to be a record.
“Tasracing has become aware that the starting position barriers for Sunday’s Hobart Cup were not placed in the intended position within the starting chute,” the statement said.
“As a result, the race was conducted marginally short of the stated 2,400-metre distance.”
“While the result of the race stands, no objections were lodged following the running of the Hobart Cup and correct weight was declared.”
Tasracing says further details will be released once investigations are complete.
