They’ve tasted plenty of success with horses like All Star Mile winner Mugatoo and Big Duke and syndicators Australian Bloodstock look to have another live one on their hands in the form of New Zealand import Per Inaway ($5) trained by Kris Lees.
Th Per Incanto filly won at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday in impressive fashion by three quarters of a length over Rubinocchi ($5.50) with Easifar ($16) a further three quarters of a length away in third.
The three-year-old showed a stack of ability across the ditch with two wins and two placings from just four outings and had since arrived on our shores to win a recent Scone trial in good order.
Per Inaway was given a perfect run in transit from gate four by hoop Brenton Avdulla, before letting down strongly to win going away from them at the end of the 1200m journey.
Lees’ stable representative Danny Greer was positive about how the race unfolded right from when they left the barriers.
“She had a lovely run just in behind the speed in a nice stalking position and we were pretty confident a fair way out,” Greer said.
“She was up for the challenge late, it was a nice win in the end.
“She’s continued to please in all her work and her trial at Scone indicated that she was going really well. Kody Nestor trialled her on the day and he was really pleased with the feel that she gave him.”
“Her form overseas suggests that (she will keep improving). She’s got good form on soft tracks and perhaps getting over a little bit further.”
After returning from a long lay off with injury, Avdulla has been in sparkling form of late as he gets back to full fitness. The 12-time Group 1 winner echoed Greer’s sentiments in believing the rising four-year-old will get over longer distances in time.
“She gave me a lovely ride, if anything at the 6 (furlongs) she was probably just a fraction out of her zone a little bit,” Avdulla said.
“I think that’s why if we go to 7 (furlongs), maybe a kinder tempo could help her and she gets a bit more deeper ground it will probably even suit her a bit more.
“There’s obviously still a bit more improvement there and I’m sure as she progresses over longer she’ll be better too.”
