The feature race at Moonee Valley the G2 Australia Stakes has been marred by the fatal fall of Group One winner Manuel who fell in the straight.
The Australia Stakes was taken out by the Lindsey Smith trained Scales Of Justice but the race was tainted after the fatal fall of Manuel in the straight leaving jockey Barend Vorster with severe chest pain.
Manuel who won the G1 CF Orr Stakes last year fell early in the short Moonee Valley straight after leader Ashlor shifted out and took the run of the Tony McEvoy trained galloper resulting in the horse falling and was sadly euthanised on course.
Barend Vorster was able to walk from the track in a neck brace but is suffering severe chest pain with a suspected broken collarbone and has been taken to hospital for further observation.
