The Australian Turf Club (ATC) is facing a battle to maintain its independence after Racing NSW issued a show cause notice on Friday, following the resignation of two directors and the dismissal of its chief executive.
The notice raises the possibility of Sydney racing being placed under the control of an administrator, unless ATC directors can demonstrate the club’s financial strength and its capacity to meet ongoing obligations.
ATC chair Tim Hale and deputy chair Caroline Searcy reportedly met with Racing NSW officials on Friday morning, where they were formally served the notice.
Racing NSW has given the ATC board two weeks to respond. Should the board fail to prove it can remain financially viable and capable of meeting its commitments, an administrator may be appointed to take charge.
